Identification plates on bikes
Following reading an article on road.cc about having number plates on bikes and reading the users comments I just had to say something.
When you see bikes on your commute what do you think?
They mainly ride on the path, phone in hand, no hands controlling the bike, riding doubled up when they actually ride on the road, don’t slow down when on the path when passing pedestrians etc etc, you know what you see out there.
Then you get the users on road.cc that are for better the word professional bikers that actually behave themselves and sometimes apply common sense but I had issues with a video once in the comments when I was trying to explain drivers fatigue and repetitive driving and how cyclists can blend into the background and I was flamed for suggesting that they should look out for there own safety by wearing hi-vis clothing when using the roads and always think, has that driver seen me.
One reply was ” so we have to be lit up like bloody Christmas tree’s?”, no just use common sense.
My opinion is that most cyclists are young kids and do not adhere to road safety nor the highway code, also then there’s the thugs that ride on the paths to steal handbags and phones out of peoples hands, there needs to be a level playing field.
If cyclist’s where identified by a plate on there bike then is riding dangerously or not adhering to the highway code (most cyclists) then they could be identified, educated and fined appropriately and make the roads/paths a safer place for all.
I also think it would be great to have a mandatory insurance for cyclists if not for there own health but to cover and damages they cause in an accident to others and there own bikes.
Something needs to change on the paths, erm I mean streets as they are not currently doing enough to keep cyclists in line and are causing a hazard on the roads and paths of the UK.
I don’t just advocate for this but also for dog and cat licenses, a system where vets can identify problem animals and owners before there’s an issue and there will be no need to ban any animal as it has been proven time after time that bans do not work.
